Intellution backs Microsoft Windows DNA for manufacturing

Keywords Control, Fieldbus

Intellution Ltd has announced that its Intellution Dynamics© family of industrial automation software solutions supports Microsoft's Windows Distributed InterNet Applications for Manufacturing (Windows DNA for Manufacturing) architecture.

Intellution demonstrated this major step in the evolution of open industry standards at the recent worldwide launch (in Seattle, USA) of Windows DNA for Manufacturing. Using its iFIX automation software, Intellution demonstrated a totally integrated SCADA/MES/ERP solution using the DNA for Manufacturing framework.

The demonstration also illustrated the power of enterprise-wide integration using Intellution, Microsoft, Camstar and SAP technologies. "It's a perfect example of how our iCore foundation, based on Windows DNA for Manufacturing architecture, makes it much easier for manufacturers to develop and deploy enterprise-wide solutions, faster and at a lower cost", said Steve Rourke, VP strategic alliances at Intellution Inc.

Intellution Dynamics' iFIX and Camstar's InSite Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software are both designed with open industry standard Windows DNA technologies; including component object modelling (COM), Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), ActiveX and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) for Process Control (OPC). It is an integration which eliminates costs associated with maintaining customised connections between applications.

"We're excited to highlight the integration of FIX Dynamics, InSite, and SAP R/3, as it provides an excellent example of the power that Windows DNA-M technology delivers to industry customers", said Marcus Schmidt, industry marketing manager for manufacturing at Microsoft Corp. "This demonstration shows how well Intellution's iCore compliments the Windows DNA-M architecture, executing on the benefits specifically intended for application development on DNA technology. It provides manufacturers in many industries with a complete, and seamless, plant-floor-to-enterprise solution".

Intellution Dynamic's iFIX family of component object solutions, released in 1998, provides a reliable, industry-standard software platform that collects, distributes controls and provides visualisation of information from the plant floor throughout the enterprise.

Camstar's InSitc MES bridges the information gap between shopfloor automation equipment and enterprise software such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) advanced planning and scheduling (APS), and supply chain management (SCM). With its application platform design and advanced factory information model, InSite is uniquely positioned to serve as the multi-plan MES standard for companies in a variety of industries.
