ARRK first to offer thin-layer SLA technology for intricate tool production

Keywords Rapid prototyping, Stereolithography

ARRK has developed its unique thin-layer, stereolithography technology further, becoming the first company worldwide to utilise 0.05mm layer build accuracy in intricate rapid tooling.

Many industry sectors require multiples of highly detailed and intricate pre-production parts, such as pre-production connectors for electronics companies.

Until now, such companies had two options: stereolithography (SLA) or tool-produced parts. Whilst SLA technology is highly accurate, large quantities may prove expensive. However, although the alternative tool produced parts may have cost benefit features, the parts themselves require hand finishing to eliminate stair-stepping. This reduces the overall accuracy and detail of the finished product.

"The development of our sub 0.05mm layer build for rapid tooling enables ARRK to produce large quantities of intricate, precision parts", explains Peter Rawson, managing director, ARRK Europe Ltd. "This method is ideal for companies requiring multiple pre-production prototypes, as accurate thin-layer tools deliver equally accurate parts which do not require any finishing, however complex and detailed".

Founded in 1945 as a model making company, ARRK has since grown into an international corporation, with over 1,000 employees. The company has a strong European presence, with four offices across the UK, Germany, France and Italy, all serviced by the ARRK manufacturing base in Park Royal, London. ARRK also has sites in the USA, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea.
