Building on its reputation for providing compact solutions for motorised applications, Yaskawa has developed a combined AC servo drive with an integrated single axis position controller that will work with its …-Series servomotors. The new drives called the HR Series, are available up to 15kW and provide a flexible and precise positioning system with significant space and integration cost savings when compared to the more conventional stand alone drives and controllers (see Plate 1).

Four different input modes are available, catering for a range of single axis applications:
- 1.
serial data mode for applications requiring point-to point positioning;
- 2.
parallel data input (via rotary switches, relays or sequencers) for feed to length applications;
- 3.
station number input, suitable for indexing applications such as rotating table or turret lathes; and
- 4.
command table number input using binary logic (offering up to 512 pre-programmed position and speed settings) which is ideal for multi-point positioning applications, such as automated shelf stacking.
Users can run the HR unit in manual mode for operation at a specified constant speed; automatic mode for repeat positioning according to input data; pulse mode, initiated by pulse train command via an external device; and zero-point return (homing) mode.
