Hengstler's new range of RA 58 absolute encoders is now available with all common fieldbus interfaces, making them ideal for multipoint use in many OEM applications (see Plate 5).

The RA 58 series will accommodate CAN, Interbus and Profibus, providing flexibility for manufacturers to work with their favoured system. It significantly simplifies the cabling process, allowing a single two-wire standard cable to provide the supply voltage and data transfer. It also cuts out the need for expensive multi-core discrete cabling to each encoder. When you consider that a typical printing or packaging machine can have as many as 100 absolute encoders, this is a significant saving on hardware and time.

The RA 58 offers single and multi-turn versions and features Hengstler's unique Opto-ASIC technology, adding to its overall reliability. And it also has Quickon connectors, allowing for straightforward connection to two-wire cable without the need for terminal connections.

The fact that Hengstler, one of the Europe's leading encoder manufacturers, has developed a fieldbus interface for one of their mainline products underlines the fact that many design engineers are adopting bus options for reliable data transfer, and space and time saving.
