Newly introduced into Baldor's extensive drives and controls range is the Series 23H digital AC servo control, a fully digital, single axis drive designed to operate permanent magnet AC motors with resolver feedback (Plate 1).

Ideally suited for use in automated machinery, material handling, conveyors, textile fabrication, food processing and machine tool positioning tables, the 23H AC servo control uses direct line operation. This means the drive can be connected to a three-phase mains without the need for a separate power supply. A simple keypad set-up, facilitates installation and configuration. Indeed, the harmonised programming facilities from all Baldor drives and controls enable all the company's operator interfaces to work in a similar fashion with common parameter settings.

The 23H has auto-tuning capability which reduces set-up time dramatically as well as simplifying procedures when upgrading, claims Baldor. With operating modes including standard three wire, 15-speed two wire and bipolar the unit can act as a standalone drive or be networked in a motion control system.

The drive covers from 2 to 55A (4 to 110A peak) with 230VAC input and 2 to 30A continuous (4 to 60A peak) with 460VAC input, programmable linear or S-curve deceleration, controlled reversing, 15 pre-set speeds, nine opto-isolated inputs, two assignable analog outputs, four assignable logic outputs, two assignable analog inputs. It also comes with up to six expansion board options: RS-232 serial; RS-422 and RS-485 serial; isolated input; four output relays 3-15 PSI interface; master pulse/isolated follower; high resolution analog input.

The series 23H is available immediately and offers a simple, inexpensive AC servo solution.
