Article Type: Guest editorial From: The TQM Journal, Volume 26, Issue 4.

This Special Issue of The TQM Journal contains selected papers presented at the 5th Canadian Quality Congress that was held at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The theme of the congress was: The Energy Driving Change.

You will find a variety of interesting and challenging topics covered in this issue for the theme of the congress. From the development of a culture-based design of business excellence system to a rigorous research study aimed at determining sustainability, resilience and robustness of enterprise systems to finding a connectivity of financial indicators to improve healthcare organizations and a case study of special governance research network benefitting the society at-large to application of the use of modern information technology in TQM systems; I am sure you will find each and every article filled with dynamic nature of evolving TQM spectrum, telling us what is happening now and what must happen on the world stage.

The presenters at the 5th Canadian Quality Congress have had their own angle and emphasis on how TQM is driving the change needed in organizations and the society as a whole. But, if I was to summarize the conference outcome, there were three main themes; the leadership, financial implications of TQM, and the IT advantage.

Leadership in quality has been and will always remain a topic at the top of agenda while discussing and bringing about the change. It ranked number one at this conference as well. Why are not the leaders then doing something about it? That question was answered by a second group of theme speakers and the conclusion was that there is still a lack of knowledge transfer when it comes to quality professionals convincing top management about the financial benefits and a win-win game plan in using TQM plus the added emerging advantages on how IT can further give an edge on the overall performance excellence.

The 5th Canadian Quality Congress was once again a too good an opportunity to be missed. I am grateful to my team of volunteers, Editorial Review and Technical Program Committee members for their dedication and support.

I want to thank Ms Juliet Harrison, the publisher of The TQM Journal along with her technical staff at Emerald Publishing Group and Dr Alex Douglas, the editor of this journal, without whose help and guidance it would not have been possible to publish this special issue on time.

Looking forward to welcome everyone at the 6th Canadian Quality Congress!
