Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to highlight issues that can occur even when organizations are experiencing revenue growth and expansion and the importance of undertaking organizational analysis so that effective change management can be implemented to facilitate the necessary changes.

Design/methodology/approach

The author draws upon 15+ years in general management, research in organizational behavior and organizational analysis practitioner’s guide.

Findings

Research shows that employee’s level of organizational commitment and contextual job performance are influenced by how they perceive their organizations support them as individuals. Within the context of changes in work environments, whether through growth or personnel, an organizational analysis, systematically pursued with the appropriate tools, will expose the underlying issues, which can then be addressed with an applicable change model.

Originality/value

Based on the author’s research findings, experience and expertise, this study provides readers with insights on the organization assessment process that can potentially be applied to their own organization.
