Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present a strategic change from the traditionally understood human resource management perspective. Through this paper, the authors attempt to present a diversity and equality based model of managing human resources for global companies for best outcomes through developing an environment of participation within the company.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

Through this paper, the authors show that DEMS has immense potential for modern day global organizations. However, it must be noted that adoption and adaptation are to be contextualized with the organization and matched with the overall goals. This paper provides a validation to the research by Ali & Konrad (2017) and empirically proves that migration from present practices to DEMS might take time, but organizations that have adopted DEMS practices have evolved into being participative in nature and have experienced sustainable competitive advantage, leading to superior organisational performance.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives, strategists and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
