This book has been many years in the making. Several people have been assisting me along the way and it is possible here to mention just a few of them. Firstly, I am very grateful for Albert Mills for taking my text into his series in Critical Management Studies. Also, I wish to thank the three anonymous reviewers for their constructive feedback. My hope is that the book will stir continued debate within the CMS community and beyond. Brilliant colleagues at Keele University, Bristol Business School, and Leicester University have generously kept me abreast of the latest turns in theory discourse. In addition, I would like to thank my former students at Oulu University, Tampere University of Technology, and Aalto University School of Business, who have over the years served as the more or less voluntary testing ground for the development of my nascent ideas. In particular the KATAJA doctoral course on organization theory that I have been teaching together with Iiris Aaltio from 2006 has provided ample opportunities for re-examining and refining my thought in dialogue with the students and visiting lecturers. Foundation for Economic Education has aided my work. At Emerald, I was lucky to be in the professional hands of John Stuart. Finally, warmest thanks to my current employer, Turku School of Economics, and Jukka Heikkilä, for providing financial support for the preparation of the manuscript.
