About the Contributors

Can Akalin is a Researcher, Entrepreneur, Business Analyst and a PhD candidate with a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University and a MSc from University of London, Birkbeck, in which he focused on Economic Development Patterns in Europe as a Jean Monet Scholar. He has worked in media production, textile, construction and automotive industry as an Operational Excellence Expert.

Iris Andriessen is a Researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Social Research, an independent organization that conducts policy-oriented research mainly for the Dutch government. Her research interests focus on the discrimination of various groups and various grounds, integration of minorities in society, diversity and inclusion, social cohesion and societal (dis)engagement.

Julienne Brabet is a Professor Emeritus of Management at Université Paris Est Créteil. She is a member of the scholarly association RIODD’s (International Network of Research on Organisations and Sustainable Development) board and scientific committee, a Vice-President of the Société Française de Management (SFM). She is recognized as an Honorary Fellow of European Academy of Management (EURAM) where she co-founded the Business for Society Strategic Interest Group. Her researches are focused on the links between technological changes, globalization, governance, strategic and organizational logics and the modes of workers’ management. Her former publications have been instrumental in structuring the French management research debate on paradigms, in particular in the field of HRM (Repenser la GRH, 1993, Paris, Economica). In her latest research, she analyses the role of digitalization in transforming work and the academic world.

Verena Bruchhagen works at the Technical University of Dortmund at the Department of Educational Science – Institute of Sociology since 1982, where she was appointed as the Head of Women’s Studies, from 1996 to 2014. In 2000, she co-founded the academic education programme: DiVersion: Managing Gender & Diversity, which has been running ever since. Her work focuses on increasing professionalism in diversity processes and competencies. Currently, Verena works with Diversity and Arts (DiVA), which is a multiprofessional collaboration with artists that aims to increase and enhance a broader range of creativity in diversity discourse, performance and practice. She also works as coaching supervisor and educational supervisor (DGSv) using a psychoanalytic and systemic perspective. As such she is an active member of ANSE; a European umbrella association of process-oriented consulting. Verena is a member of the international society for diversity management (IDM). She has published in a number of international journals, has edited books and delivers frequently presentations in the field of women studies, gender and diversity, system-theoretical approaches to diversity, learning and teaching diversity and about diversity in the field of supervision and coaching.

Maria-Giuseppina Bruna is a Full Professor in Management and Director of Ethics and CSR at the IPAG Business School. She serves as Director of the Chair IPAG ‘Towards an Inclusive Company’ and as Scientific Leader of IMT Mines-Albi Diversity Program. She has been appointed, by French Ministries for Social Cohesion and Labor, ‘expert-member’ to serve in several Taskforces on Discriminations and Diversity at Work. As an Associate Editor of the Management & Sciences Sociales Review and Fellow of the Dauphine’s Chair ‘Management, Diversities and Social Cohesion’, Dr Bruna is the author of 70 articles and 40 chapters published in peer-review journals (European Management Review, Management International, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, Management & Avenir […]) and books. Involved in research-dissemination, Dr Bruna has given 60 professional lectures and talks. She is member of the Executive Committee of the ‘Acting for Employment’ Foundation.

Martina Lo Cascio is Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Bergamo (Italy); she obtained her PhD in Social and Psychological Sciences at the University of Palermo and was research fellow at the European University Institute (Florence). Her research interests include migrant labour, rural sociology, agri-food chains, peasant movements.

Jean-François Chanlat is a Professor of Management at the University of Paris–Dauphine, P. S. L. France, Co-director of the ‘Cross-cultural Management’ Master as well as the Co-Scientific Director of ‘Management, Diversities and Social Cohesion’ Chair. His main domains of teaching and research are organization theory, organizational behaviour, anthropology of organizations, sociology of business firms and cultures and organizations. He has published 20 books and numerous articles in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic, notably in English, Cross-Cultural Management; Culture and Management across the World (co-edited with Eduardo Davel et Jean-Pierre Dupuis), and two books recently co-edited with Mustafa F. Özbilgin, Management and Diversity: Perspectives from Different National Contexts and Management and Diversity: Thematic Approaches. He has just published a book in French, co-written with Philippe Pierre, Le management interculturel: Evolution, tendances et critiques, which, from a state of the art, proposes an intercultural perspective of social contemporary relationships in a context of globalization.

Rory Mc Daid is a Lecturer in Sociology of Education and Research Methods in Marino Institute of Education, Dublin. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Cultures, Academic Values and Education Research Centre in Trinity College, Dublin. His research interests include the experiences of immigrant children and teachers in Irish schools.

Dr. Andri Georgiadou is the Director of the Equality Inclusion and Diversity (EQUIDY) Center in Cyprus and a Fulbright Visiting Professor at Penn State University, USA. She worked as an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management and Program Director for the MSc in Global Business at the University of Hertfordshire and London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK before returning to Cyprus. She has authored and/or co-authored a plethora of scientific papers published in prestigious international journals such as European Management Review, Tourism Management, and is also a reviewer in many international scientific journals and conferences. Her research focuses on equality, diversity and inclusion at work from relational and interdisciplinary perspectives. She is a recipient of the 2018 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award; the 2016 European Management Review Best Reviewer Award, and the the 2014 Graduate Scholar Award for Diversity in Organizations, Communities & Nations. In 2019, she was elected regional representative for Southern Europe for Academy of International Business (AIB) Western Europe chapter, and she was appointed Deputy Chair and Vice Chair Events for the same chapter.

Theodoros Fouskas is a Sociology (PhD). He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor (407/1980) at the Department of Public Health and Community Health, University of West Attica (UNIWA). He has taught Sociology of Migration, Migration Policy and Integration Policies and Health of Populations on the Move at many academic institutions. He has published extensively on issues of migration, precarious employment, access to healthcare, social integration and exclusion. His works include the following: Nigerian Immigrants in Greece (2014, Nova), Contemporary Immigration in Greece: A Sourcebook (2014, EPLO), Migrant ‘Communities’ and Labor Representation (2012, Papazisi). Since 2005, he has participated in many research programs for migrants and refugees and other vulnerable groups.

Rifat Kamasak is a Professor of Management and Strategy at Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, Turkey. He also holds board membership positions in several companies. He received his BA from the University of Istanbul, an MA in Marketing from Middlesex University, an MA in Management from the University of Durham and a PhD in Management from the University of Exeter, UK. He has worked in the food, textile and consulting industries for nearly 15 years. His primary interest areas are business strategy, organizational behaviour and knowledge and innovation.

Semra Karakas has a PhD in Management Sciences (Human Resources Management) from the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and is currently Adjunct Professor in the research laboratory PRISM Sorbonne. Dr Karakas’s research topics focus on diversity (gender, ethnicity, age), career (career success), diploma (career of university graduates and ‘Grandes Ecoles’ graduates) and the management of executives and engineers. Dr Karakas is also a member of the ‘Diversity and Gender’ and the ‘HRM and sensitive research’ working groups of the Association Francophone de Gestion des Ressources Humaines (AGRH); Francophone Association of Human Resources Management.

Florimond Labulle is an Engineer, holds a PhD in Management and is both an entrepreneur and an academic. As an Associate Professor in Université Paris Est Créteil (France), he is Co-Director of the Master’s in ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ and his research focuses on diversity management. He published in 2018, in English, ‘Local inefficiencies in French public–private diversity and inclusion policies: Envisioning a locality-based intersectional analysis’ (together with Rémi Jardat) and, in French, a chapter about the conceptual and practical ambiguities of the management of diversity by the companies of a deprived suburb in ‘Management de la diversité des ressources humaines’.

Andreas Merx is a Management Consultant, Political Scientist and Trainer for Diversity and Cross-cultural Competence. He has been active in the field of equal treatment (anti-discrimination), diversity, integration, interculturalism and migration for more than 10 years. He has worked for the German Federal Parliament and the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as an Academic Specialist Adviser on the German Equal Treatment Act (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz, AGG), diversity management, diversity politics, integration, the Immigration Act and right-wing extremism. His other work includes management consulting, political counselling and academic services, for example, for German federal ministries, federal authorities, public agencies, political-party research foundations, political parties, NGOs, associations and companies. These include the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the Green party Heinrich Böll research foundation and the OECD. Training activities include work done for the German Charter for Diversity, the Social Democrats’ Friedrich Ebert research foundation and several universities. Andreas has published extensively on diversity management, diversity politics, positive action, equal treatment practices, the German Equal Treatment Act, integration and immigration policy as well as for cross-cultural topics.

Arnfinn H. Midtbøen earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Oslo in 2013 and is Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, Oslo. Midtbøen works on a broad set of research issues related to immigration, citizenship, integration and discrimination in the labour market. Currently, he heads a large scale research project on descendants of immigrants in education and working life in Norway, and with colleagues in the USA, the UK and the Netherlands, he works on a meta-analysis of audit and correspondence studies of racial and ethnic discrimination in labour markets across the world. Midtbøen’s research has appeared in journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences (PNAS), British Journal of Sociology and International Migration Review.

Mustafa F. Özbilgin is a Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Brunel Business School, London. He also holds two international positions: Co-Chaire Management et Diversité at Université Paris Dauphine and Visiting Professor of Management at Koç University in Istanbul. His research focuses on equality, diversity and inclusion at work from comparative and relational perspectives. He has authored and edited 15 books and published over 200 articles in academic journals such as Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Learning and Education, British Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Human Relations, Gender Work and Organization and Social Science and Medicine among others.

Domenico Perrotta is a Researcher and Assistant Professor in Sociology of cultural processes at the University of Bergamo and Co-editor of the journal Etnografia e ricerca qualitativa/Ethnography and Qualitative Research. His recent publications include the collective volume Agriculture and migration. Mobility and change in the Mediterranean area, co-edited with Alessandra Corrado and Carlos de Castro (London, Routledge, 2016).

Michaël Privot started at the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) in 2006 and became Director in 2010. In 2016, he has been appointed as Scientific Collaborator at the Center for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM, University of Liège, Belgium). He is an international expert on radicalization issues within Muslim communities. He has more than a decade of experience in D&I policies in the private and public sectors at European level. He holds a PhD in Languages and Literature (ULiège). He has authored A Critical Biography of Prophet Muhammad for teenagers and young adults with I. Saidi (2018), a number of academic publications as well as op-ed articles. He regularly appears in a variety of national and international media, including Euronews, Voice of America, Al Jazeera, RT and European Voice on issues linked to Islam in Europe and race relations.

Joana Vassilopoulou holds positions at the Brunel Business School, Brunel University London, the UK and at the Erasmus Centre for Women and Organisations, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, The Netherlands. Her research focuses on race and gender equality at work, highly skilled migrants, migration, diversity management and talent management, from a critical and international comparative perspective. Joana has an established academic and professional record in the field of diversity and inclusion and is frequently invited to deliver talks, and she has organized and hosted the international Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) conference. She has published in edited collections and journals such as the European Journal of Industrial Relations, International Business Review and the International Journal of Human Resource Management.

Thomas Walsh is a Lecturer in the Maynooth University Department of Education, Ireland. He teachers on a number of courses within the Department of Education and is also the School Partnership Co-ordinator with specific responsibility to build relationships with partner schools. Prior to joining Maynooth University, he worked as a primary school Teacher, an Early Years Researcher and a District Inspector with the Department of Education and Skills. His research interests include curriculum policy, history of education and early childhood education. His doctoral research focused on primary school curriculum policy in Ireland and resulted in the publication of his book, Primary Education in Ireland 1897-1990: Curriculum and Context by Peter Lang Publishers in 2012.

Meltem Yavuz is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Istanbul University. She received her BA degree in International Business and Trade from Yeditepe University and her MA degree in Transportation and Logistics Management from Istanbul University. She holds a PhD in Management and Organization from Marmara University. Currently, she studies her second Master’s degree in Psychology at Work at the University of Leicester. Her primary interest areas are organizational behaviour and business strategy in terms of both individual and organizational contexts.
