Acknowledgments

I am extremely grateful to the seven contributors of Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 for accepting my invitation to write their respective chapters. This book originated from the three papers on Denmark, New Zealand, and Singapore presented at the panel chaired by me at the Eighth Annual Conference of the Asian Studies Association of Hong Kong (ASAHK) in Hong Kong on March 8–9, 2013. I would like to thank Professor Sonny Lo, Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Institute for Education and Chairman of the Eighth ASAHK Conference Organizing Committee for accepting my panel proposal; Michael Johnston, Robert Gregory, and Daniel Zirker for presenting their papers on Denmark and New Zealand; and Krishna K. Tummala for serving as the discussant for the panel. Thanks are also due to Ari Salminen for preparing Chapter 3 on Finland, Ian Scott for Chapter 4 on Hong Kong, Krishna Tummala for Chapter 7 on India, and Gerald Caiden for Chapter 8. As I have known and worked with most of the contributors for many years on other projects, it has been a pleasure to work with them again on this book. I thank all the contributors for their professionalism and for facilitating my job as the editor by their cooperation and prompt submission of their chapters.

I am most grateful to Thomas Dark, the Publisher of Emerald Group Publishing for his prompt approval of my book proposal and facilitating the publication of the book, and the Managing Editor, Christopher Harris, for overseeing the production process. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge my appreciation for the excellent collection of books and journals on corruption at the National University of Singapore’s Central Library, and to thank Tim Yap Fuan, Associate University Librarian for Information Services, for his assistance in locating relevant sources. Finally, I wish to thank the former RPPAM Series Editor Lawrence R. Jones (with whom I have worked closely on my two previous books) and Clay Wescott, the RPPAM Interim Series Editor, for their friendship and staunch support for my research on corruption.
