More of EU’s cocaine will come via Western Balkans

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Groups from the Western Balkans (WB) are heavily involved in Western Europe’s cocaine market. More than one-third of joint operations conducted during 2018-21 by Europol, an EU body coordinating national law enforcement agencies, targeted organised crime linked to the region.

  • Corruption at WB ports will increase, especially in Albania and Montenegro.
  • Balkan drug traffickers will try to expand access to the United Kingdom.
  • Cooperation between organised crime in the WB and in Croatia and Greece will deepen.
