Political infighting in Ukraine is muted by war

The attacks, the first in some weeks, highlighted Kyiv's vulnerability as the seat of power. President Volodymyr Zelensky has argued with Kyiv's mayor over emergency measures and intelligence officers have raided the city's most famous monastery to sniff out pro-Moscow clerics. Such turbulence disturbs a generally calm political scene where participants still avoid attacking Zelensky and the war effort.


  • Zelensky's team will try to use the suspension of normal politics to consolidate his grip on power.
  • Ideological differences in parliament will be confined to Zelensky's centrist party and the similarly pro-EU opposition.
  • The Ukrainian armed forces enjoy wide public and political support, and none of the criticism levelled at the army in Russia.
