Cameroon political rivalries may lead to instability

Although many factors explain his political longevity, one key element is his consistent ability to maintain rivalries among powerful subordinates. In part, this is expressed by governance through overlapping and parallel structures. Most recently this has been illustrated through his relationship with the powerful secretary-general of the presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh-Ngoh.

  • Tensions within Cameroon's ruling circles will pose an obstacle to any longer-term resolution of the anglophone crisis.
