Significance

Insecurity will be elevated in the Middle East in 2023. There will be increased anti-government demonstrations, driven by political alienation and worsening socio-economic conditions. Violence by radical groups, such as Islamic State (IS), could include bombing of civilian targets. States, such as Turkey, Iran and Israel, and non-state actors, such as Kurdish groups and the Huthi, will use missiles and drones across borders.
