Monday, October 18, 2021

Significance

Delhi and Canberra have had a series of high-level bilateral engagements in recent years. The two sides, each wary of Beijing’s growing power, announced a comprehensive strategic partnership at a virtual meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison in June 2020.

Impacts

  • Singapore and Vietnam may engage more closely with the Quad.
  • India will court France’s support for developing nuclear-powered submarines.
  • China will deepen security cooperation with Pakistan and Russia.
