Significance
The formation of a cabinet is the next step in the roadmap agreed under the August 17 power-sharing agreement between the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and protest leaders from the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), after the Sovereign Council (SC) was sworn in on August 21.
Impacts
- A sustained escalation in armed conflict would severely test the agreement.
- Economic improvement and reform will be fraught with challenges and are unlikely to be rapid.
- The Rapid Support Forces will continue trying to avoid scrutiny of its activities.
