Regional integration moves.
The 13th summit of the Pacific Alliance (PA) trade bloc (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru), held recently in Mexico, was joined for the first time by political leaders from Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) to discuss a possible convergence between the two blocs. Global uncertainty and changes in the globalisation process have created the conditions to discuss alternatives in the region’s economic integration strategies. However, the obstacles to convergence between the PA and Mercosur seem to be greater than its real possibilities.
