Significance
There is little optimism that the second half of 2017 will bring stability in Venezuela. Barring high-level and concerted international mediation efforts, the political conflict between pro- and anti-government forces will deepen, making resolution even more complicated as political positions harden further. Unpredictability owes much to the salience of both internal and external trigger factors that could dramatically influence the fragile political and economic situation.
