Lithuania seeks to update Baltic polluters list
Article Type: News From: Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, Volume 22, Issue 5
Lithuania will propose to take five of its installations off a list of pollution hot spots in the Baltic region. A decision to update the list could be made by the Helsinki-based Helcom commission on the protection of the Baltic in May. The Helcom list of Baltic pollution hot spots was established in 1992 and is regularly reviewed. The Lithuanian Environment Ministry said three of its wastewater treatment plants in Kaunas, Kedainiai, and Palanga and two installations owned by firms Lifosa and Orlen now meet EU and Helcom environmental standards.
