26th annual conference of the computational fluid dynamics society of Canada (CFD2018)
Preface
This special issue presents 13 papers selected from the 26th Annual Conference of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Society of Canada (CFD2018), hosted by the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, during June 10-12, 2018. The CFD2018 conference featured a strong technical program with keynote lectures, parallel sessions, special sessions and student competitions. The extended abstracts were peer-refereed prior to the final acceptance of full-length papers for collection in the conference proceedings. Over the two-day program, there were 112 scheduled presentations, including 5 keynote lectures, 98 oral presentations of research papers and 9 undergraduate poster presentations. The conference participants represented academic, government and industrial sectors in Australia, Canada, China, Columbia, Germany, Great Britain, Pakistan, Russia, The Netherlands, Turkey and the USA.
The conference organizing committee was chaired by Dr Bing-Chen Wang and co-chaired by Dr Scott Ormiston and Dr Hartmut Holländer. The CFD2018 conference had two themes:
computational fluid dynamics and numerical heat transfer (oriented towards engineering flows); and
computational environmental flows and transport phenomena (oriented towards environmental flows, with an emphasis on water resources and atmospheric sciences).
Papers related to computational fluid dynamics and numerical heat transfer were selected for publication in the special issue of International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluid Flow, under the title of “Advances in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Numerical Heat Transfer”.
All selected papers for collection in the special issue went through the standard peer-review process evaluated by at least two anonymous referees. We thank all the referees for their time and efforts that made it possible to produce this special issue. We also thank the Editor-in-Chief, Prof Roland W. Lewis and the publisher, Emerald Publishing, for this excellent opportunity to publish this special issue and for their support during the editorial process.
