Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to provide a short overview of WorldSkills UK's deep mission to improve the diversity and inclusivity of its skills competitions, in order to give more young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to achieve their potential.

Design/methodology/approach

Opinion piece outlining the organisation's stated aims and objectives with respect to diversity and inclusion, incorporating fresh insights from emerging research.

Findings

Makes the case for a transformative approach to diversity and inclusion in a critical part of the UK's FE system, providing unique insights into one organisation's trailblazing approach.

Originality/value

A case study of a hitherto under-reported, yet important, aspect of vocational skills policy.
