BIX – The Library Index, or: Why less is often more

Abstract

In October 1999 a new project of performance measurement in German public libraries was launched under the title ‘BIX ‐ The Library Index’. Based on the co‐operation of the Bertelsmann Foundation and the German Libraries’ Association (DBV) a long‐term national annual comparison on the basis of a few indicators has been established.
