Abstract

Elaborates on the Y2K problem from a slightly different kind of view, by examining how, for 2.5 millennia, astronomers, mathematicians and physicists, emperors, popes and politicians, have attempted to dabble in the calendar in differing ways. Looks at the Julian calendar, which was introduced in 45BC, and also at the Gregorian calendar (which was introduced in England on 14 September 1752), which caused riots in the streets. Uses Figures and highlighted boxes to aid in discussion. Predicts only a few IT systems failures will occur at the actual millennium date change.
