AB  - Aims to discover how general managers are selected, what support they received in their first post, what their first significant actions are, and the current and future success criteria against which general managers could be measured. Uses a survey of 90 international senior managers and executive search professionals. Delineates the first general management role, selection of general managers, time allocation, and competencies for the future. Concludes that warning bells from this research should be ringing, as a success rate of only 50% from UK managers to be CEOs, should be a case for concern.
