Asserts that, with one exception (Nelson Mandela), great leaders are normally confirmed retrospectively, after review of their work or achievements can be seen in the context of their time and place. Discusses heroic leaders or national heroes but also looks at the darker side of leadership. Goes on to the business leaders, personalized leadership, leadership personified and that leaders, by definition, must have followers. Suggests that it would be sensible to beware of placing too much power, hopes and dreams on a single individual.
