Profibus—a user’s view

Abstract

Discusses the benefits that drive‐controlled AC motors have brought to automated plants and how these can be enhanced by the use of a PROFIBUS [the PROces FieldBUS] communications card. Describes how drives control the motor speed according the production process, allowing production to be increased on demand, and resulting in a drop in material consumption and a lowering of the rejection rate. Describes the Profibus option card, the benefits of its use and its installation and operation. Examines the development of drives and the future development of Profibus. Concludes that Profibus will establish itself as one of the truly international standards in the next few years.
