Abstract

Describes Ford′s plans to replace the supply system at its largest car‐assembly plant by a full JIT‐type of supply system where linkages with suppliers are controlled by a computer network. A feasibility study and a cost/benefit analysis of this new supply system have been made. The operation involves in‐plant modifications; new material handling equipment; standardisation of packaging material; new procedures for transport; identification; reception and invoicing, etc.
