COUNSELLING IN THE WORKPLACE ‐IS UK MANAGEMENT READY?

Abstract

The introduction of counselling into the workplace is typically met with scepticism and resistance. Organisations promoting counselling services tend to adopt an “ambulance chasing” mentality, emphasising how counselling can help with individual emotional casualties. For workplace counselling to make a significant organisational contribution, however, there needs to be a fundamental change in corporate attitudes. One of the leading commentators on the need for changes to British organisations is Professor Cary Cooper. In this interview he considers the current attitudes towards workplace counselling and offers his perceptions for the future.
