Abstract

Discusses the principle of Parkinson′s Law – “Stock expands to fill the storage space available” – as it applies to space utilization in industrial warehousing. Compares the poor use of industrial space with the excellent utilization of shop space by retailers, suggesting the retailer′s need to maximize display is the reason for this discrepancy. Summarizes that increased capacity is available without expansion by adopting the principles of the retailer.
