Abstract

Discusses the reasons behind the drive for increased technology in the retail industry. Considers the shift from supplier‐led to marketing‐led operation, increased opening hours, increased product ranges, more sophisticated layouts, and the need for more detailed sales data as factors in the adoption of technology to satisfy information needs. Concludes that the problems of the retail industry are providing rich opportunities for EPoS system suppliers, especially those who link EPoS into retail management and control systems.
