TY - JOUR AB - A model of effective set advising is researched from a literature review and repertory grid interviews with set advisers, and is then tested against experience. The model framework describes the key activities (what), the advising processes (how) and the purposes and motives (why). The dimensions of adviser interventions are also identified as content, process, feelings and administration. Total contingency theories are challenged and behavioural and conceptual tools are developed by which advisers can be coached and developed over the dynamic life cycle of the set. This model can help adviser and sets to understand and negotiate their respective roles to achieve the specific goals of the group.
