PPG introduces POWERCRON ADVANTEDGE electrocoats to EMEA markets
Article Type: Industrial news From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 62, Issue 1
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business has introduced POWERCRON ADVANTEDGE(TM) electrocoats (e-coats), a line of next-generation, high-edge cationic-epoxy products for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) markets.
Powercron AdvantEdge e-coats are designed for high-edge protection of cut, stamped or formed edges on complex metal parts, and their formulation with metal-free catalyst technology developed and patented by PPG offers several performance and environmental advantages over competing products.
Metal-free catalyst technology enables Powercron AdvantEdge e-coats to be formulated without tin, bismuth and other heavy metal-based compounds, helping them comply with emerging regulatory trends such as new REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances) mandates in the European Union, which will restrict the use of many heavy metals.
In addition, Powercron AdvantEdge e-coats cure at temperatures as low as 160°C, which helps manufacturers reduce energy costs and related carbon emissions. The coatings also can achieve higher and more uniform film builds on complex parts due to their throwpower.
Olivier Benoit-Bachelet, PPG global product manager, electrocoat, said:
Global reserves of bismuth are uncertain, and other heavy-metal compounds are increasingly subject to restrictive environmental mandates. Powercron AdvantEdge e-coats will help manufacturers comply with evolving global environmental standards, protect them from cost volatility and enable them to manufacture products more efficiently.
Powercron AdvantEdge e-coats resulted from many years of collaborative development between PPG research teams in Europe and the USA They are designed to pass the highest specification standards of global automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers).
As the world’s leading coatings manufacturer, PPG offers a comprehensive array of e-coat, pre-treatment, liquid and powder products for metal finishing to manufacturers in numerous industries. In addition to providing a broad range of industrial coatings and a full spectrum of colour choices, PPG backs its products with industry-leading technical expertise delivered through an international customer support network. With 50 years of experience in e-coat, PPG has the expertise to solve the industry’s toughest corrosion challenges.
