About the Contributors

Erica Åberg, PhD, works as a Senior Researcher at the INVEST flagship, sociology unit, University of Turku. In her doctoral dissertation, she examined the gendered norms of physical appearance, empirically focusing on social media, motherhood and ageing.

Aki Koivula, PhD, is a University Lecturer and Docent of Economic Sociology at the Department of Social Research, University of Turku.

Iida Kukkonen is a Senior Researcher at the Unit of Economic Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Turku. Kukkonen's research interests revolve around physical appearance -related inequalities, gender and consumption. In her PhD thesis she studies gendered physical appearance -related inequalities in Finnish working life.

Hanna Ojala, PhD, is a University Lecturer in Gender Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University, Finland. Her research has focused on intersections of age, gender and class in the various contexts of men's ageing, such as anti-ageing, exercise, health, retirement and communities.

Tero Pajunen is a Senior Researcher at the Unit of Economic Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Turku, Finland. His research focuses on the meanings and meaning-making processes of physical appearance in various contexts.

Ilkka Pietilä, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Social Gerontology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland. His work has covered topics such as ageing men and masculinities, health, ageing and embodiment as well as the use of anti-ageing products and services.

Anna Puhakka is a PhD Student in Gender Studies at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

Laura Salonen, PhD, works as a Senior Researcher at the INVEST flagship, sociology unit, University of Turku. In her dissertation she studied processes of long-term work disability and socioeconomic disparities. She has expertise in quantitative research methods and her research interests include social and health inequalities.

Outi Sarpila is an Adjunct Professor in Economic Sociology. She is currently working as a senior research fellow at the INVEST flagship, sociology unit, University of Turku. Her research interests include themes related to physical appearance and inequalities, and sociology of consumption.
