About the Authors

Brian D. Agnew, PhD, is the Executive Vice President of Bergen Community College, where he provides cabinet-level leadership for the institution in areas such as personnel, strategic planning and organizational development. Agnew has held faculty appointments at Rutgers University, Montclair State University, and Georgian Court University. He frequently lectures on topics such as presidential leadership effectiveness, fund-raising, higher education of tomorrow, organizational structures, and crisis management.

Richard De Lisi, PhD, is a University Professor and Senior Fellow at the Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership. His academic leadership roles include serving as dean of the Rutgers Graduate School of Education from 2003 to 2014. Dr. De Lisi has cocreated leadership development programs for Rutgers graduate students, faculty, and administrative staff.

Maria Dwyer, PhD, teaches and conducts research at the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University and is an active member of the Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership Graduate Research Team. Her research interests include leadership, group communication, and pedagogy.

Ralph A. Gigliotti, PhD, is Director of Leadership Development and Research in the Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership, where he oversees a portfolio of faculty and staff leadership development initiatives and leads research efforts focused on leadership, communication, and crisis in higher education. He is the coauthor of A Guide for Leaders in Higher Education: Core Concepts, Competencies, and Tools (Stylus Publishing, 2017) and Leadership: Communication and Social Influence in Personal and Professional Settings (Kendall Hunt Publishing, 2017).

Christine Goldthwaite, PhD, is a Senior Program Administrator at the Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership where she oversees the development, coordination, and facilitation of the Academic Leadership Program at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (ALP-RBHS). As an organizational communication scholar, her research examines the intersection of organization design and communication design.

Ronald Quincy, PhD, is a Professor in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University and Academic Director of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Civic Leadership Institute. Ron served as a cabinet member for two Michigan governors, Associate Vice President at Harvard University, Executive Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr Center for Nonviolent Social Change, and President of the White House Fellows Association.

Brent D. Ruben, PhD, is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Communication, and Executive Director of the Center for Organizational Leadership at Rutgers University. He is also a faculty member of the Graduate School of Education and the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. His numerous published books and articles focus on communication processes in organizational, intercultural, health, educational, and leadership settings.

Cynthia Teniente-Matson, EdD, is the second President of Texas A&M University–San Antonio. She has more than 25 years of experience in higher education with a track record of achievement that supports campus growth, including faculty and student success, economic development, financial stewardship, and broad-based entrepreneurial leadership. Prior to her appointment at Texas A&M University–San Antonio, she worked as Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer of California State University–Fresno.
