Acknowledgments

We owe everything to our Domasi teacher partners who have opened their hearts to us every year since 2004. Their names are legion, but we especially want to thank Gift Kawiza and Hamilton Kamwendo, teacher leaders at Domasi Demonstration Primary who now teach elsewhere, but whose participation has been central and compelling. Through her position as District Supervisor, Alippo Ussi negotiates our access to each other and guides our collaborative struggles with the love of a mother leader. Tadala Kapenuka, son of Lucy Kapenuka, was a Standard 8 student when Potts and Barber first traveled to Malawi; he now teaches secondary school and handles email and on-the-ground communication for our group when we are apart from each other, along with editing all LMT book text written in languages other than English. Jane Pwhetekwere provided skillful and loving leadership to the inception of the Destiny Pads Project, and teacher Tisi Ngalande now does so, fostering further leadership development among the girls who sew them. Robert Stovalla, a young emerging leader, has joined Chifundo Ziyaya as spokesperson for our more recent collaborations at the Demonstration Primary School.

Critical is the energy and ingenuity of the university students who have traveled to Malawi across the years to see a dream through to fruition by joining hands with a teacher whose life they could barely imagine before they arrived there. Their ability to shift gears, acclimate, move across points of view, and grow by breath-taking leaps inspires those of us who have been at this for a while. Also, we want to thank University of North Carolina Wilmington graduate student, Claire Kenney, for her careful editing and keen ear in editing our manuscript.

Finally, we want to remember two Malawian educators and dear friends who have died: Reuthers Malembanje and Absolom Phiri. We offer our chapter in their memory.
