Abstract
The Department of Health published a new document on medication safety in January 2004. This article reviews the content of the document from risk and safety perspectives. It considers difficulties in effective implementation of the relevant principles discussed in the document. It discusses the overriding concerns of training and resources, which are a significant barrier to reducing medication errors.
