Abstract

Assesses the impact of the new General Medical Services (GMS) contract for general practice in risk‐management terms. Looks at the relationship between risk management and record keeping and the incentives provided within the GMS contract to improve practice in these areas. Case studies are used to examine how enhanced record keeping and risk‐management issues are relative to clinical scenarios. Discusses expert recommendations on electronic record keeping and examines competency frameworks in practice management, and their use in learning risk‐management lessons within a GP practice.
