Self‐employment as a survivor trainer: tension, tedium and opportunity
Abstract
When Sara Stanton found it difficult to get a job because of her psychiatric history, she decided to set up her own not‐for‐profit company and become a self‐employed survivor trainer. She now works extensively with NHS trusts, mental health charities and user groups. Here she describes the challenges and benefits of working for herself, and the tensions and conflicts thrown up by the work itself.
