Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to sketch the broad outlines of a university schema that can conform to the goal of equal dignity regardless of rank – the “dignitarian university” of the title.

Design/methodology/approach

Provides a discussion on the “dignitarian university”.

Findings

Societies that uproot rankism in their schools and universities will lead the world in the twenty‐first century, just as those that curtailed the abuse of rank in government led in the twentieth.

Originality/value

This article provides a useful insight into the “dignitarian university”.
