Abstract

Uses the recent penetration of broadband through the 30 percent adoption level to explore its likely impact on society. Drawing on a variety of trend data and examples like South Korea where broadband is used by 75 percent of the population, briefly examines the rise of e‐commerce, entertainment on demand, distance education, telemedicine, and bringing developing nations online. After a long delay, it seems that the promise of cruising down the information superhighway may soon become a reality.
