Tapping the Iceberg: How to Get the Best Out of Your People through Empowerment
Abstract
Looks at the role of the manager in tapping into the potential of the workforce in an organization. The traditional role of the manager has been related to command and control which, it is argued, tends to restrict the potential contribution of the individual. However, if individuals are to be empowered in order to tap into this potential, then it is important that they are aligned with the mission of the organization and competent to undertake their tasks. Furthermore they must be given sufficient freedom to act. Considers the processes of delegation and coaching as part of the development process. Concludes with a ten‐point action plan to enable the empowerment process to be as effective as possible.
