TY - JOUR AB - Presents a framework for the exploration of academic standards at institutional level. Identifies five areas for special attention. Formulates a set of expectations for each, on which it is expected there will be a large measure of agreement. The primary task is then seen to convert these expectations into calibrated standards (for output, process and inputs) which may be expressed as quantitative (e.g. statistical indicators) or qualitative (e.g. narrative descriptors) measures. The final task is to benchmark the standards within and between institutions.
