Abstract

During the last few years, both public and private employers have been striving to become Investors in People. This government‐funded award is given to firms who can show that they value and nurture their staff, and reward excellence. Many employees are pleased that their organization is associated with this award, while others are less certain. To some extent it seems to depend on how workers view their company. Are they proud to be part of it, and happy to talk of the firm as “we” and “us”? Or do they, at the other extreme, either see themselves as wage slaves or view the company as a staging post to something better?
