Improved Innovation Processes: The Key in Becoming a Time‐based Competitor?
Abstract
Time is becoming increasingly important as a competitive weapon. The available time to turn R&D costs into profit is shrinking. Being late brings the risk of never regaining the costs. The best effects on speed (as well as cost and quality) can be created by recognizing the process of product development. It requires a firm commitment from top management, a much closer relationship with suppliers and service, and a real change in attitude from marketing, product and production engineering. This places high demands on the organization. Discusses these demands as well as a proven method to reach the above‐mentioned goals; the high pressure project‐start‐up method. A case‐description of a PSU in a high‐tech environment is enclosed. Concludes with a description of the positive effects of information technology.
