METHODS model for teamworking

Pamela Spears (Quality teams co‐ordinator for the J.C. Penney Regional Catalog Fulfilment Center in Columbus, Ohio. She has worked for J.C. Penney for 18 years in both operating and support areas and has also trained four other divisions in quality techniques. She is a frequent presenter at international conferences and has participated in judging team competitions. She co‐ordinates the team process within the Regional Catalog Center and developed the METHODS model of teamworking which has been successfully used by J.C. Penney and other organizations. Describes the METHODS teamworking model which includes seven basic principles: measurement; encouraging improvement; teaching; listening and conflict resolution; optimization and innovation; dreaming; and success. Explains how these principles have worked for two teams at J.C. Penney.
