TY - JOUR AB - Purpose– The purpose of this study is to propose an analytical approach based on the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) for solving the initial value problems associated with the Fornberg‐Whitham type equations.Design/methodology/approach– In this paper, He's HPM is applied to Fornberg‐Whitham equations. The procedure of the method is systematically illustrated.Findings– The results show that the HPM is a powerful mathematical tool to solving these equations, it is also a promising method to solve other nonlinear equations.Originality/value– The results show applicability, accuracy and efficiency of HPM in solving nonlinear differential equations. It is predicted that HPM can be widely applied in science and engineering problems.
