BS 5750 – History Shooting Quality in the Foot

Abstract

Describes the results of research into companies registered to BS 5750 (ISO 9000). The research pointed to problems with both the Standard and its implementation. Looks into the history of the Standard in an attempt to account for the problems being experienced today. Argues that what was relevant and important at the time of the Standard’s genesis has changed as markets and organizations have evolved, and thus it has little relevance to today’s organizations.
