Abstract

Current centralized MRP II systems utilize a data processing structure which is based on 1960s computer technology. They have proved difficult to implement and where they have not, most users are dissatisfied with the results of their investment. The following discussion deals with the inherent reasons (apart from bad project management) why MRP II implementations are prone to failure, and will suggest an alternative approach which significantly simplifies the implementation task, as well as improving the operational characteristics of the system.
