Abstract

In‐depth interviews were conducted with training officers in various high‐tech firms to identify how senior‐level training programmes were aligned with organizational strategy. The survey revealed many similarities of practices among the firms: there was a general belief that executive training acts as a vehicle of change; a supportive organizational climate and the commitment of top executives existed; an emphasis on identifying organizational needs over individual needs; and the use of state‐of‐the‐art training technologies were employed. Discusses future directions of executive training and offers practical suggestions to firms considering devising their own executive training programmes.
